SOW Spotlight Tuesday - Megan Broadnax
An Interview With Megan Broadnax
- How do you define WORSHIP? (In other words, what does WORSHIP mean to you??)
I believe that true worship is described in Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. This is your true and proper worship.” I know that when I worship I am presenting EVERYTHING to God as if I am in front of the altar and making sure that I am genuinely presenting my heart, mind, and body before God. I am acknowledging the sacrifices that HE made for me and in return praise him in spirit and in truth.
- What was your role in the film? (Vocalist, Instrumental, Production Crew)
Vocalist.
- Have you had any professional training? Vocal? Instrumental? Production/Film Crew?
No.
- Are you active in your own church and if so, in which way/role(s)?
Yes. I serve as a mentor for my church God’s Girl Ministry; I am a member of our church Mass & Adult Choir and a member of our Singles Ministry.
- What do YOU think are the biggest misconceptions people have when it comes to gospel music, worship, and/or faith-based films?
A misconception about gospel music is the idea that it should only have traditional sound vs a modern sound or the value/meaning of the song is depleted. A particular sound should not dictate the authenticity of a song. A more modern sound makes it no less of a gospel song than that of a more traditional sound. A misconception about worship is that people only view it as being one simple act, but there are several ways to worship God and you don’t have to wait to worship him in the church. As it relates to film, many people think that you should only showcase light issues within the church, but forget about all of the real issues that need to be addressed inside and outside the church.
- Favorite Gospel artist?
Deitrick Haddon.
- What is your go-to GOSPEL jam (song/track)?
God’s Got A Blessing by Norman Hutchins.
- Favorite Psalm or Bible verse?
Proverbs 3:5-6.
- How much of a role/impact would you say your faith has (or has had) in how you go about your everyday life?
My faith has a major impact on my daily walk. I immediately thought of the hymn “God’s Unchanging Hand,” because in one of the verses it says “build your hopes on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.” There is no way I could do things my way and make it, so my faith is my motivation to live according to how God wants me to and to make sure that I am following what he commanded in 2 Corinthians 5:7.
- What are your thoughts on live-stream TV evangelists?
I don’t see many TV evangelists; however I believe that there are evangelists that are sowing the Word of God and those that are false teaching on and off TV. There are ones that have a heart for the people of God and then ones that have ulterior motives.
- How long have you been a believer? Did you grow up in the Church?
I was raised in the church and have been a believer since I was baptized at the age of 5.
- Have you ever felt judged for your faith or your beliefs, and/or been criticized for being too enthusiastic in how you worship? Share a particular experience if you’d like.
Yes, I have felt judged.
- Of the three, which do you most prefer: ministry, prayer, or worship?
Ministry.
- What message do you hope is conveyed in the release of this documentary? What impact do you hope this film will have?
My prayer is that this film will have a positive impact and cause people to examine themselves with the questions: Is my worship real? Have I been guilty of feeding into the misconceptions of worship leaders, gospel music, and gospel films?
- How do you know the director, Alan Nettles and what led you to become involved in this project?
Alan has been a friend for many years. When he asked me to be involved in the project I considered it an honor. I knew from the moment he described his vision for the documentary that something powerful would manifest.
