SOW Spotlight - Greg Fontus
An Interview With Greg Fontus
- How do you define WORSHIP? (In other words, what does WORSHIP mean to you??)
Worship is an authentic experience with God in which you give yourself up as a living sacrifice to Him because of the grace and mercy He has gifted you with.
- What was your role in the film? (Vocalist, Instrumental, Production Crew)
I was a ministry leader who gave my perspective on worship.
- Have you had any professional training? Vocal? Instrumental? Production/Film Crew?
No.
- Are you active in your own church and if so, in which way/role(s)?
Yes. Worship Elder and Ministry Director for University and Young Professionals Ministry.
- What do YOU think are the biggest misconceptions people have when it comes to gospel music, worship, and/or faith-based films?
That it’s an emotional response that’s for entertainment and not for the glorification of God.
- Favorite Gospel artist?
Tye Tribbett.
- What is your go-to GOSPEL jam (song/track)?
Currently: Tye Tribbett- Worship Medley.
- Favorite Psalm or Bible verse?
Romans 5:8- “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- How much of a role/impact would you say your faith has (or has had) in how you go about your everyday life?
Faith doesn’t have an impact on how I go about my everyday life. Faith IS how I go about my everyday life.
- What are your thoughts on live-stream TV evangelists?
As long as the gospel is being preached in accordance to the Bible then I have no issue. I do have issues when it’s not. It’s hit or miss with this one.
- How long have you been a believer? Did you grow up in the Church?
I grew up in the church with parents who were very involved in the church. I was even baptized by the age of 9. However, I really didn’t get to experience God and the gospel until 2012.
- Have you ever felt judged for your faith or your beliefs, and/or been criticized for being too enthusiastic in how you worship? Share a particular experience if you’d like.
Yes I have, but I never really cared about what others thought. My worship is my response to God’s faithfulness towards me.
- Of the three, which do you most prefer: ministry, prayer, or worship?
Prayer because I believe prayer is central to everything in life including ministry and worship.
- What message do you hope is conveyed in the release of this documentary? What impact do you hope this film will have?
That worship is the natural byproduct of knowing who God is.
- How do you know the director, Alan Nettles and what led you to become involved in this project?
We both attend the Riverside Chapel SDA Church.
